(note: although this is not myspace i like to keep track of everything i've written or made this summer here, explaining why this article was included)
hello. i may assume you're reading this because you have at one point been faced with a question concerning what would be the polite way to deal with certain social issues on myspace. you will find all questions about proper myspace etiquette have been divided into subsections for easy access in tight situations. i will be covering topics such as the proper way to picture comment, how many bulletins you can make in a day without being an annoying asshole, the proper length for an about me, and how many pictures of yourself you can have on your myspace without coming across as arrogant. let us get started; you may take it as seriously as you want.
comments
- someone just left me a comment, what do i do?
comment them back, it's the polite thing to do. but of course don't answer it too quickly or it might seem like you're starved for friendship.
- what is the proper way to picture comment?
the proper way to picture comment is simple. come up with something nice or amusing to say about someones picture. to avoid seeming like you have no imagination stay away from using phrases such as "lol" , "omfg", "cute", or "we rock".
bulletins
- what is an appropriate subject for a bulletin?
bulletins usually inform your friends that you have new pictures on your myspace or that you have a new blog entry. filling out thousands of surveys about yourself is not proper etiquette, its just annoying.
- i made a bulletin about my new pictures yesterday and no one has commented them yet, do i make another bulletin about it today?
no, give your myspace friends time to respond, maybe they're just doing stuff thats not on the computer, or maybe they just don't care.
- i already made 4 bulletins today, can i make another?
making thousands of bulletins a day is not only pointless but it may be getting on peoples nerves. calling too much attention to yourself is most definitley not proper etiquette.
blogs
- is it a good idea to put my poetry in my blog?
no this is not a good idea, people will most likely mock you (especially if you're between the ages of 12 and 17, teenage poetry has a reputation for being ridiculously bad).
- whats the proper length for a blog?
try to keep it to 1 or 2 paragraphs, anything lengthier then that will scare off potential blog readers and that means no comments for you!
- how much personal information should i reveal in my blog?
not much, if your blog starts going into details about medical health issues or why the colour purple makes you cry, then maybe you should consider getting a more private blog. like one made out of paper. sometimes referred to as a journal.
pictures
- how many pictures can i put on my myspace of just my face?
these are tacky, try to avoid. 10 points deducted if you took them yourself, 20 points deducted if theres a thousand and they're all basically the same shot, 30 points deducted if no one even bothered to comment them.
- is it cool to put song lyrics as the picture captions?
no (tortured teenage souls are not proper etiquette)
- is it humourous to take pictures of me or my friends acting ghetto or emo?
sorry kids but this is no longer original or funny. gang signs are cliche now and so is sadness.
about me
- how long can my about me be?
try to keep this minimal. a 6 paragraph essay is way more then necessary. if you're even able to write this much about yourself more then half of it will be obsolete babble.
- is it proper etiquette to mention my friends in my about me?
yes of course, mentioning your friends is polite and proper etiquette.
- would it be a good idea for me to include all the names and abbreviations for the gangs i'm in?
no dahlin, gangs are so cliche now. especially naming them and writing about them in your about me.
media
- should i have it set so that when someone opens my myspace page the song i've uploaded immediately starts playing?
no this isn't polite, most people are trying to listen to their own music when they're on the computer and having to constantly pause everyones myspace song gets tiresome.
- how many videos can i put on my myspace?
1. anymore then that is a media overkill and you my friend, are just a media whore.
- how many flashing things can i have on my myspace?
i'm sure you can guess the answer to this, 0. giving someone a seizure is not polite.
and this is the end of the myspace etiquette guide. i hope you found it useful and informative. i wish you all happy socializing!

So practically you're asking people to take the myspace out of their myspace? But it's all dumb people have, Janeen.
Haven't you heard of operation myspace? We wait about a year or two before all the lame people go to myspace. Then we make them go to a lame myspace conference where they'll all be locked in a box and the world will be inhabited by only the cool ones (non-myspacers) and the offline folks... which don't really bother us in out daily lives.
